Engine’s off. Doing 6 knots under just the Genoa. Let’s hope it’s a good idea to let this southeasterly take us across the bar.

I’m over Nahwitti Bar now, I’ve picked up a couple of knots of boat speed from the current, and I can see a distinct line in the water behind me where the waves from the southeasterly abruptly stop, and the water smooths out as it shallows, shifting from chop into a low rolling swell. Starting to see some tide rips.

We’re over Nahwitti Bar, it was an uneventful downwind crossing. Into the impacific Pacific we go.
16:10 Sail Change
Hoisted the main as the wind is becoming lighter, but it looks like we’re going to lose the breeze for a few hours during the shift to the NW, as forecasted.

Under power again, wind has died off. Onwards to Cape Scott. It’s pretty peaceful out here. Just one long blue horizon and a single fishing boat.

What a spectacular day to be out here. The blues are incredible — the dark blues and the turquoise and the green of the ocean, and then the different shades of light blue in the sky, and then the whites and greys of the clouds, and the whites and greys of the seagulls, and all the reflections, all the shimmering sunlight dancing on the water. And all set against the mesmerizing landscape of a 2 - 3 meter swell. Just now, an orca surfaced and swam past me.

Right as forecast, the NW is picking up, just enough to keep us moving along under sail, enjoying the sound of the water, the sun, the endless blues.
22:05 Weather
Wind is picking up! Averaging 6 knots, may just reach Winter Harbour before nightfall at this rate.
